The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), the global organization responsible for formulating wireless charging standards, has recently officially announced that the Qi2.2 wireless charging standard is now online. It will fully support fast charging with a maximum power of 25W and introduce a magnetic charging function similar to Apple's MagSafe. More importantly, mainstream Android phone brands will also fully join the Qi2.2 camp, and this change is expected to transform the wireless charging ecosystem.
Compared to the current Qi2, which only supports a maximum of 15W and is mainly used for Apple iPhones, the emergence of Qi2.2 is a significant upgrade. It not only increases the power to 25W but, more importantly, incorporates a magnetic attraction structure standard, allowing mobile phones to be firmly attached to charging accessories — whether it's a magnetic charger, a car mount, or a power bank, all will become more convenient and stable.
At present, several accessory brands have taken the lead in layout. Qi2.2 products from well-known manufacturers such as Ugreen, Belkin, and Anker have already passed the certification, and relevant accessories will be launched one after another in the near future.
For a long time, the Qi2 standard has been mainly supported by Apple's iPhones, while most Android phones have adopted a stripped-down version without magnetic components, resulting in limited charging efficiency and a subpar user experience. However, this situation is about to change.
The official statement from WPC points out that in addition to Apple, mainstream Android smartphone brands will also fully join the Qi2.2 ecosystem. Currently, hundreds of devices are undergoing certification testing for Qi2.2's 25W fast charging.
Although the specific list of brands has not yet been announced, market speculation suggests that the most likely pioneer will be Google's Pixel 10 series, set to be released on August 21. It is rumored that the Pixel 10 will be the first to feature the Qi2.2 standard and will launch exclusive magnetic accessories called "Pixelsnap," creating an ecosystem experience similar to MagSafe.
